Inglis Millennium

The Inglis Millennium is a race you might not be that familiar with… but it’s worth $2 million! Formerly the Inglis Classic, which was worth $250,000, the race was rebranded as the Inglis Millennium in 2019 and handed a massive prizemoney boost. It forms part of the Inglis Race Series, a series of events across the racing calendar that are open only to horses sold through the Inglis sales ring.

The Inglis Millennium is a two-year-old race held at Randwick Racecourse over 1100 metres in early February. This makes it a very interesting race in Golden Slipper calculations. In fact, the Slipper is the only two-year-old race in Australia that’s worth more than the Inglis Millenium. The Golden Slipper is worth $3.5 million, while both the Inglis Millennium and Magic Millions 2YO Classic boast $2 million in prizemoney.

Inglis Millennium 2020

After a massive Sydney downpour and subsequent raceday cancellation, the 2020 Inglis Millennium was run at Warwick Farm the following Wednesday. Prime Star, ridden by British gun Tom Marquand, battled through the wet conditions to defy the starting price of $18 and deliver a big win.

It was a maiden career win for Prime Star, who cost connections $55,000 at sale. So not a bad return from his first win! Bella Nipotina ran second, while Larimer Street was third.
