The Longshots Report is your guide to high-priced golfers that can earn us profits in some of the less popular markets without winning the Tournament – First Round Leader, Top 10, 20, Make Cut etc
Last week at the Wyndham Championship we managed to get two of our longshots into the Top 20. Our best result was Chesson Hadley (8th) and Callum Tarren finished 27th.
This week is the first week of the season-ending Fedex Playoffs. We’re at TPC Southwind, Memphis for the St Jude Championship. The season’s Top 125 players do battle for US$15M on offer this week, while hoping to make it into the Top 70 in order to qualify for the next US$15M tournament, next week.
The field is headlined by almost all of the top-liners – Rory, Rahm, Scheff, Cam, Fitzpatrick etc etc. Should be a great week of golf.
The course favours precision over strength so accuracy off the tee, decent iron play and a good short game are all important this week.

Here’s our St Jude Championship Hit Squad with Win and Top 20 prices:
Scott Stallings
$101 / $4
Mito Pereira
$101 / $4.50
Davis Riley
$91 / $3.75
Taylor Pendrith
$91 / $3.75
Keith Mitchell
$91 / $4.30
And the details:
Scott Stallings
His last four finishes are 8-4-10-13 which puts him right in our Top 20 sweetspot. Also has a runner-up finish here (2013) but hasn’t played this tournament since 2018. Didn’t go to Europe for The Open or lead up events so should be feeling pretty fresh for this big month.
Mito Pereira
Mito got hot in May with a run of 3-7-13 from the PGA Championship onwards (which he should have won). He followed those 3 starts up with 4 MCs in a row including the US Open and The Open which was the last time he tied it up. Incidentally, he gained strokes on Approach in 3 of those MCs, so still hit the ball well. After a 3-week break to recharge, as long as he holes some putts then this is a huge price.
Davis Riley
Before Tom Kim’s win last week it was looking like a 2-horse race between Riley and Cameron Young for Rookie of the Year. That’s how successful Riley’s season has been – 6 Top 10s and 4 Top 20s which are beautiful numbers for almost any of the non top-liners. Has missed 2 cuts in his last 9 tournaments and in both of those tournaments he lost strokes on Approach, which is quite rare for him. With a solid 13th last week at the Wyndham it will be no surprise to see Riley high up the leaderboard this week.
Taylor Pendrith
Since returning from a broken rib last month, Pendrith has put up 13-11-2-13 at the Barbasol, Barracuda, Rocket Mortgage and finally last week at the Wyndham. These are great numbers with the only real negative being his even par final round at the Rocket Mortgage to finish 2nd. This is the best field he’s played in for since his return but as we’re getting better than $100 to get involved then he’s easy to find.
Keith Mitchell
8 Top 20s from 17 starts in 2022. Comes into this after a strange week at the Wyndham where he was 54th. He was ranked 1st for Strokes Gained: Off The Tee but lost strokes putting, which is unusual for him. Has a great all round game and a just a semi-warm putter should see him higher up the leaderboard.
