Murwillumbah Cup, Race 7 4:20pm

Track We often see the better going to be away from the inside at Murwillumbah (even when it is dry) so I expect backmarkers / run-on horses will get their chance.

Speed Quite a lot of backmarkers in the Cup so it’s hard to predict the tempo as on-pace tactics become the key. But with At Witz End, Fighting Magnus and possibly Wild Chap all wanting to be on the speed, I am expecting an average-above average tempo.

6 The Ritz [$2.80] has a great record (12-6-3) and ran terrific in defeat in the Coffs Cup after a wide run, finishing second to the classy Hosier.

10 Morethannumberone [$4.40] showed merit against the tempo at Eagle Farm last start, running the third-fastest last 400m of the day. Had a chance tomorrow at Randwick… it’s easier here, there’s a stronger tempo and the high strike-rate Jag is to steer.

1 Giannis [$6] has spent much of his career in Group races (is a Listed winner) and ran well resuming at Doomben with tempo to suit. Suited by the step-up in trip here and fitter second-up.

8 Macchina Volante [$9] is capable on his day and ran on well over an unsuitable trip last start. Won this race last year making his record 3/3 at Murwillumbah. Tempo should be to suit.

11 Tara Jasmine [$14] missed the start and raced in inferior ground at Coffs, but still has to tick the “distance” and “away from Grafton” boxes. She’s a query really.
