The Group 2 Sandown Guineas for three-year-olds is one of the premier races on Zipping Classic Day. Despite the name, the race is now run at Caulfield Racecourse at the tail-end of the Victorian Soring Carnival.
Sandown Guineas 2022: Trev’s race preview
TrackThe track is a Good 4 early and should remain so. It’s meant to be pretty warm on Saturday and there shouldn’t be much rain, if any, until very late in the day. It should race well.
Speed The speed is okay here. Atmosphere will probably lead the big field. Holymanz will sit handy and Williams should go forward on See You In Heaven. The pace should be genuine.

13 See You In Heaven [$3.40] put in a terrific effort at Flemington over 1400m. She ran home strongly late with an interrupted run. She looks suited out to 1600m and has the early speed to go forward. The horse to beat.
3 The Fortune Teller [$4.20] made good ground in the Carbine from the wide barrier. He’s better drawn here and looks well suited.
12 Holymanz [$10] has run well at both runs this prep and gets a good run here on the map. He’s certainly one of the main chances.
4 Shuriken [$11] is on the quick back-up from winning at Ballarat last week. He’s drawn wide here which is a concern, and I’m not sure the form from the race is that good.
5 Atmosphere [$13] ran well at Flemington where he led, kicked and then was run down late. He steps up in trip here but gets the blinkers off. He looks the leader.
1 Kings Consort [$15] took all day to get going last week at Ballarat and did his best work late. He’s a chance at odds.
9 Angry Skies [$15] put in a good run at Caulfield two starts back. He looked to have every chance last start when well beaten. His best runs have been on wet tracks so he may not be suited here. I’m happy to risk him.
2 Sandpaper [$16] has been disappointing at the past couple of starts since a good win over 1400m here. I’m happy to risk him.
10 The Real Thing [$21] won a weak BM64 at Pakenham and it’s hard to see him making the jump here.
11 Tokenist [$31] ran on okay over 1800 metres at Flemington. He’s back in trip here but that’s not a concern. He can get a cheap run from a decent draw and is a rough chance.
7 Zamborghini [$34] hasn’t had much luck at his past few runs. He can get a cheap run from the barrier here and is a rough chance.
I don’t think the rest are good enough to figure here: 8 Dream Hour [$21], 15 Marxist [$34],6 New York Hurricane [$67],14 Anphina [$71], 17 Rajnish [$81], 18 Jatobi [$101], 16 Venetian Lass [$151].

Best bet See You In Heaven
I’m all over the favourite here – I have her on top as well and shorter than the market. She’s just about my best bet on the card. Give her strength!
