First run in 1971, the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes for three-year-olds is run at Eagle Farm Racecourse over 2100 metres. While traditionally part of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, in 2019 the race was moved to December and given a boost in prizemoney to $250,000.

1 Kovalica [$1.65] is clearly on top for mine – there really is no going past him. He has the Waller / Orman combo, the best last-start ratings in the field, and this is his second run at 2000m+ this campaign following his last-start win.
8 Noah ‘n’ A Deel [$4.60] ran second behind Kovalica last start and I can’t see her turning the tables on him here.
3 Tradition [$6.50] is the other interesting runner in the race. He’s with Godolphin so is in the right camp, and he ran some strong late sectionals to win last start at Canterbury.
4 Kandos Cosmos [$9.50] just rises in class too much here I think – he’s coming straight from a Class 1 at Newcastle.
I can’t see the rest of them being a chance here: 5 Cash Me [$12], 6 Tapildoodledo [$34], 2 Four Mile Lane [$91], 7 Chayse ‘n’ storms [$101].
Grand Prix Stakes
Top pick Kovalica
Best value Tradition
This is obviously a pretty tough betting race with such a short favourite. There’s no doubt he’s the top pick but he’s very well found in the market and very short. It will be depend on your risk appetite in backing odds-on horses. If you’re after some better value then the only one I can see rolling Kovalica is Tradition.
Good luck!
