The Longshots Report is your guide to high-priced golfers that can earn us profits in some of the less popular markets without winning the Tournament – First Round Leader, Top 10, 20, Make Cut etc

Last week at the BMW Championship we did well again, with Keegan Bradley nailing the First Round Leader and our other two picks both making the Top 20 overall. Value! Onto this week…

It’s a strange week coming up with the season finale that is the Tour Championship.

The field has been whittled down to 29 players and each start with a “score” based on their FedEx Cup standings for the season.

It’s a concept akin to handicaps and perhaps the only professional golf tournament which seeds players based on previous results.

The leading player, Scottie Scheffler, will start the week at 10-under, followed by a staggered start which has Cantlay at 8-under, Will Zalatoris at 7-under, Xander Schauffele at 6-under, Sam Burns at 5-under and the other 25 players all chasing from further back.

What this means is that Scheffler will start very short in the betting, around 3.50!

To that end, it makes betting on Longshots a little less interesting as the $101 shots need to make up 10 strokes before they even hit a ball.  That’s hard to do!

So, luckily most bookies offer an alternative market which is generally labelled “Lowest 72 Hole Score”. This is the market we’re playing in this week.

With 29 players, we don’t get the big range of prices so our longshots are a little “shorter” than usual, between $26 and $81.

You can also check out the Golf Insider’s full preview for the tournament right here.

Viktor Hovland :flag-no: $26

Viktor has played well here in his two appearances, 4th in 2020 and 14th last year. He is absolutely top-class as showed last week by shooting the low round on Sunday. He generally gains strokes on Approach but didn’t last week so would expect improvement this week. We’re getting a very decent price on him.

$26

Aaron Wise :us: $41

Last man into the field this week, qualifying as #30. Has had a very strong last 6 months – finishing in the Top 25 in 7 out of 14 tournaments. Took 3 weeks off before the Playoffs, could be peaking this week and he’s around 40/1

$41

KH Lee :kr: $81

Lee’s had a great year improving his ranking and is finishing strong as highlighted by his efforts in the Playoffs. 20th at the StJude and 5th last week at the BMW Championship are great results. Has absolutely nothing to lose here this week, guaranteed $500K prizemoney and more if he can lift himself off the bottom of the standings.

$81

Finally, the Longshots Report will take a break for a few weeks while the PGA Tour does the same.
