Futurity Stakes 2022: Trevor Lawson’s Preview
Speed Not a bad quality field, if a bit small. I think Turaath will lead from Streets Of Avalon and Tofane. I’m Thunderstruck will possibly sit last.

I’M THUNDERSTRUCK [$3.90] ran on okay late when first-up in a slowly-run CF Orr Stakes. He looks to get a similar setup here, albeit in a smaller field. He’ll either be last, or midfield and 3-4 wide. I’m happy to bet around him based on that.
STREETS OF AVALON [$21] has been given a short break and hasn’t really fired this prep. I’d prefer to wait and see him return to some form before backing him.
MO’UNGA [$5] is good fresh. He maps to settle a couple of pairs back on the outside and will be strong late.
TOFANE [$2.60] dictated the CF Orr Stakes from the front. I think she’ll take a trail here, but she’s still the horse to beat.
🗣️”She’s ticked over lovely, had a nice hit out on Tuesday, looks bright and a bit fitter, can’t fault her”

SIERRA SUE [$10] ran honestly first-up in the CF Orr. She gets a similar setup here. I’m not sure if she can improve again.
TURAATH [$10] has underperformed at her last two starts, but she gets to right trip now. She looks the leader and should be fully fit. Can run to her best.
The epic 1931 Futurity Stakes won by PHAR LAP.
With the max 20lb penalty (10.3) & left flat-footed at the start, Phar Lap gave the leaders about 40 lengths on settling.
Jim Pike always maintained this was Phar Lap’s greatest victory, “I wondered why his heart didn’t burst”. pic.twitter.com/6MjCjJr6Z0— Form Focus (@FormFocusHQ) February 23, 2022
EXTREME FLIGHT [$15] ran really well first-up in the Rubiton over 1100 metres. He goes up in trip which is a bonus… but this is a different class.
MR MOZART [$51] wasn’t suited first-up in the Rubiton and is better suited here. But he really lacks the class for this.
Verdict: Tofane is certainly on top for me, I can’t disagree with the market – though I would like a slightly longer price to back her. I have Mo’unga second pick and then I’m Thunderstruck, who I think is well under the odds. He’ll have a lot of work to do and looks the obvious candidate for lay punters.
