Souths vs Roosters: NRL Round 3
Souths are struggling in 2022 and I think it primarily due to Cody Walker’s poor form. Against the Broncos, I gave him the benefit of the doubt as I thought he was playing with a corked knee. But against the Storm, I saw some clear signs that Walker is not only down on confidence, but he also seems to lack the hunger that has typified his performances in recent years.
As a positive, Souths did manage to march up the field a lot better against the Storm and in post contact metres, they sit in third behind Panthers and Knights. But as is always the case, ball control is the issue and they lead the competition for errors. Too many of their backline movements result in spilt ball and too often this is occurring early in the set.
Cook is also not in great touch at 9. His run metres were well down against the Storm and he has made a few silly errors this year already. Souths desperately need Cook, Murray and Walker to stand up for this grudge match.
Will be interesting to see how the crowd of Roosters v Souths on Friday night compares to the Swans game at the same time. Same weekend last year the Swans got 1k more at the family friendly Sat arvo slot than Syd v Sou on Friday pm. Hopeful the nrl can win but not too confident

Roosters bounced back strongly, with Keary looking much sharper and Walker showing everyone what a dangerous half he is. I liked what the Roosters did with the ball but I do wonder how much of their success was due to Manly playing so poorly. As soon as they held the ball, Manly managed a couple of tries of their own, so Souths are a chance here if they can lower an error rate.
This will be an emotional affair and another game where points hard to come by. I do not have a good read on either team’s form at this stage, so will just watch this.
Souths vs Roosters: Predicted score
Roosters 22
Souths 18
