Storm vs Souths: NRL Round 2
Although the Storm welcome back Munster, Grant and J Brom, the likes of Christian Welch, Brandon Smith and George Jennings are big losses. Welch is the Storm’s best prop and one of the more underrated players in the competition. He his hard, has a big motor and a handy offload. J Brom is a player that is past his best and while Nelson has moments of brilliance, he still has the odd brain explosion… so I do not think the Storm will be able to rely on the power game in 2022 like they have in previous seasons.
I also think the Storm were made to look good last weekend by a terrible Wests second half performance. Wests were dominating the Storm across the park and should have won that if they played error free footy. But instead they turned the ball over and let the Storm back in. The Storm tries were nothing special and I think they will need to find another gear against this Bunnies outfit.
While a loss to the Broncos looks bad on paper, I think Souths played some really good footy last weekend. Their kicking game was solid and their defence was top notch. The Bunnies were not only missing Latrell, but they were also missing his replacement with Taafe ruled out late in the week… so I do think the market was underestimating just how disrupted Souths were last week. Making matters worse, Walker copped a knock on his knee and was clearly playing with pain. A few days icing it up and a needle before this game, and he will be back close to 100% for this one.
With Latrell back, Souths have an entire new look. Johnston will go back to his favoured wing spot, while young Ilias will be better for his run last weekend, as will the likes of Murray, who was playing his first game of the year last weekend.
Although Coach Bellamy’s 500th game will be a big occasion and I think the Storm will do enough to win here, I think the line is too big and happy to take the +7.5 on Souths..
Storm vs Souths: Predicted score
Storm 20
Souths 18
