The three-year-old fillies clash for $750,000 at Randwick Racecourse in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m).
Flight Stakes Handicap: Alfie’s preview
Track It’s already a Heavy 8 early and there is more rain around, so I’m definitely playing the track in the heavy range.
Speed North Star Lass should lead with Zougotcha, Pavitra and She’s Extreme in behind. Fireburn goes back. The pace overall is pretty average.
Runner-by-runner
Prices courtesy of TopSport at time of publication.
1 Fireburn [$2.45] put in a great run last week in the Golden Rose. She’ll be back and coming late. We know she’ll run the distance. She’s very short at the moment.
3 Zougotcha [$3.20] is the Waller / JMac combo. She’ll be forward in the run. This is her first go at 1600m.
2 She’s Extreme [$5.50] beat Fireburn in the Champagne Stakes in April. She’s proven at distance. She’s on the quick back up from the the Golden Rose.
5 Wolverine [$9] seems to be quite a short price at the moment.
4 North Star Lass [$13] thrived on a Heavy 9 second-up over 1200m, winning the Group 2 Furious Stakes. She’s in the right camp (Waterhouse and Bott) to be going up in distance. She’ll be forward in the run and is a big chance.
6 Madame Pommery [$15] ran on well last start in the Tea Rose to finish second to Zougotcha at big odds.
A win would really surprise from any of the rest: 7 Pavitra [$41], 8 Renaissance Woman [$71], 10 Whisker To Whisker [$101], 9 Byron Belle [$151].
Betting strategy
Two-horse play
She’s Extreme
North Star Lass
At current prices I think Fireburn and Zougotcha are a tad short. So with that, I would have a small outlay on She’s Extreme and North Star Lass at better value.
