rsm classic longshots

The Longshots Report is your guide to high-priced golfers that can earn us profits in some of the less popular markets without winning the Tournament – First Round Leader, Top 10, 20, Make Cut etc

Last week at the Houston Open we managed a couple of collects. Mackenzie Hughes started the tournament well, getting a share of each-way money in the First Round Leader market as he was 4th. He went on to be our highest finisher overall, in 16th, cashing our Top 20 ticket. Also making the Cut were Davis Thompson (43rd) and Benny An was good for 53rd. Unfortunately Sepp Straka never got going and missed the Cut.

This week we’re off to the RSM Classic in Georgia. To play well here requires the fairly standard formula that we see for all of these early-season tournaments prior to the end of year break – keep the ball in play, hit greens in regulation and make putts. It’s going to be another birdie-fest. Sea Island doesn’t play long so it’s best suited to the players that excel in SG: Approach (Strokes gained on Approach) and have good birdie scoring records.

Here’s our lovable list of Longshots (Win/Top 20) :bomb::bomb::bomb:

:us: Trey Mullinax $95 / $4.90
:us: Ben Griffin $95 / $4.50
:us: Justin Lower $111 / $5
:us: Zach Johnson $226 / $5.50

:us: Trey Mullinax

Has made three of five cuts here with a best finish of 25th. Admittedly they aren’t great figures but he’s a much better player since he first started coming here, culminating in a win at the Barbasol back in July. Since the win his form reads 21-37-5-12-MC-MC-71-4. With a great fourth last week in Houston, he feels like a great value bet this week.

$95

:us: Ben Griffin

Griffin is a recent graduate from the Korn Ferry Tour and he’s had a great start to the season with 6 tournaments and finishes of MC-24-60-3-59-16. That’s an excellent run and he must be full of confidence. He’s right in our $101 sweetspot so gets a run in our Longshots this week.

$95

:us: Justin Lower

Lower missed the Cut last week in Houston but it was a truly cold putter that cost him. His ranking has been on the improve for some time now and although not a full time member of the tour, he’s doing a great job of the opportunities he’s getting at the moment. Also, everyone is always pulling for him.

$111

:us: Zach Johnson

Obviously his best days are behind him but has made his last 5 cuts here for 3 Top 10s and a 16th. That’s very, very solid. He doesn’t play often, but plays here every year and I’d be kicking myself if he puts up a good score here and I wasn’t on.

$226

Good luck this week!
