Bulldogs v Knights: NRL Round 10
The Bulldogs could only manage a single try against the struggling Raiders, so it is not clear to me their attacking issues are improving. The try was a Matt Burton barge over effort, which kind of sums up their season so far. With the exception of guys like Burton or Addo-Carr doing something special at an individual level.
But Flanagan at 7 still fails to impress me, while Marshall-King was exposed at 9…Dufty is still not a defensively minded fullback and even his attack is suffering of late.
While the score got away from them in the end, the Knights stuck with the Cowboys for a big chunk of the game last weekend. Ponga was great at times, as was Hoy in the halves.
The Knights look a lot stronger with guys like Clune and Barnett lining up in starting 13. Although Crossland did ok, Clune and Hoy would be a much better halves pairing and I think Clune will bring Ponga more into the game in attack.
Statistically, these two teams match up pretty well and while I think it will be close, I think the Knights poor injury run is being overlooked here. Yes they have been woeful, but they have also been missing some key players, who are coming back this week and next.
I think the Knights have hit rock bottom are bouncing back at present. I think they win here and offer decent value on the head-to-head.

Sea Eagles v Broncos: NRL Round 10
The return of Haumole Olakau’atu and Andrew Davey is big, while Schuster potential return to huge. Although a lot of the focus on Manly is on their star-studded fullback and halfback, it is the Manly pack that often determines how well their attack goes.
Although they did enough to beat an under-strength Wests, the go forward from Manly’s pack was a bit lackluster. Aloiai, Sipley, De Luis, Trbojevic and Keppie all fell short of 100m last week. Against a better forward pack, I think Manly would have been in trouble. The fact that their number 9 is not a natural hooker, also plays a part, as Manly rarely get many metres scooting around the ruck.
The Broncos forward pack also had some stragglers last weekend, however the likes of Jensen, Carrigan and Flegler provided them with plenty of depth and this week they are getting some big guns back in the form of Haas and Capewell. Most importantly for the Broncos pack, is their commitment to defence. Their defensive attitude is so different to the Seibold years and Coach Walters deserves credit for getting this Broncos team firing in 2022….it was only a few weeks ago that the tabloids were questioning if Walters would be let go!
Both teams head into this in good form and with troops returning. Although it is technically a Manly home game, the Brisbane crowd will give the Broncos a chance of an upset here.
Manly are a hard one to read, while the Broncos are also capable of pulling off an upset at home against a big gun team, so I am happy to stay out of this one and see how it pans out.
