Panthers v Eels: NRL Round 9
These two teams often play in thrilling encounters, with the Eels coming very close to knocking off the Panthers last year in the finals.
I think that before last weekend’s heavy loss to the Cowboys, the Eels would not have been given such a big head start for this game. Which to me suggests the market has unfairly downplayed just how good the Cowboys were. In fact, the Panthers also struggled for a big chunk of their match last weekend and they only managed to come over the top of the struggling Titans when Fifita had gone off injured.
The week earlier, the Panthers were tested by the out-of-form Raiders outfit, so it’s only late in the game that the Panthers have managed to soundly beat two poorly performing teams. Therefore, despite being unbeaten and at home, I’m not sure the Panthers head into this match with the form to warrant the big head-start the bookies are giving the Eels.

Opacic returning out wide will help, with the Eels line-up already looking much better with Brown back at 6. I think the Eels have the kind of game that can worry the Panthers.
I think we could be in for a classic battle of the west.
Although the Panthers are very hard to beat, I think the line in this one is far too big.
Predicted score: Panthers v Eels
Panthers 20
Eels 14
