Read on for NRL Round 23 early mail and value betting leans for each game…
NRL Round 23: Souths v Panthers, Thursday night
Early prediction: Souths
The value: Souths -4 at TopSport
- Souths destroyed the Eels as I thought they would, but will face tougher competition this week against an understrength but resilient Panthers outfit.
- In their losses to the Eels and the Storm last week, the Panthers showed amazing character to get back in the match despite missing so many key troops.
- With Graham back in centres and Burgess back on bench, this Souths team looks their strongest all year
NRL Round 23: Cowboys vs Warriors, Friday night
Early prediction: Cowboys
The value: Cowboys -20.5 at TopSport
- The Cowboys are having their premiership credentials questioned after suffering heavy defeat at the hands of the Roosters
- The Roosters have belted them twice this year and the Panthers and Sharks also did a number on them, but the Cowboys are down in class here against the Warriors.
- The Warriors turned it on last weekend but they seem to only lift when at home
Broncos v Storm, Friday night
Early prediction: Storm, just
The value: Broncos +6 at TopSport
- The Broncos are another team having their credentials questioned after a lacklustre win over the Knights last weekend.
- Clearly they are missing Carrigan, but also the defensive strength of Farnworth on the edge
- Broncos at home in a thriller.
NRL Round 23: Eels v Bulldogs, Saturday afternoon
Early prediction: Eels
The value: Eels -9.5 at TopSport
- With Moses back this week and a Top 8 spot now in jeopardy, the Eels should come out firing.
- The Bulldogs were horrible against the Warriors and have now conceded 142 points in their last 5 games (over 28 on average per game).
- Eels should be far too good
Manly vs Sharks, Saturday afternoon
Early prediction: Sharks, just
The value: Manly +14 at TopSport
- Manly’s season continues to implode, with the Titans running riot last weekend.
- This weekend their squad looks a little better balanced and although they will miss Jake T, they should lift at home.
- Sharks demolished Wests last weekend, but Wests were pitiful.
Roosters v Wests, Saturday night
Early prediction: Roosters
The value: Wests +21.5 at TopSport
- The Roosters forwards continue to impress with JWH, Lodge and Radley playing out of their skins in recent weeks
- In contrast, Wests were pathetic against the Sharks last weekend and turned up with a horrible attitude.
- The Roosters should demolish Wests, but you don’t know which Wests team will turn up at the moment.
NRL Round 23: Dragons v Titans, Sunday afternoon
Early prediction: Titans
The value: Titans head-to-head at TopSport
- The Dragons’ form continues to slide and although other coaches are more in the firing line, pressure is mounting due to Griffin’s insistence on leaving out Sloan and Sullivan.
- While the Titans win last week might be seen as a home town fluke, they can back it up this weekend.
- With Brimson, Fifita, Big Moe and Fermour the Titans have plenty of attacking threats and if Boyd and Clark can steady the ship at 7 and 9, the Titans can win this one.
Knights v Raiders, Sunday afternoon
Early prediction: Raiders
The value: Raiders -11.5 at TopSport
- The Knights’ horror season continues to get worse, with Ponga and Mann being caught in a cubicle and Tuala and Best dropped for being late for the bus.
- Throw in Klemmer being dropped last week and guys like Milford, Lee, and Hoy all bailing on the club next year… and you have to ask how the coach still has his job.
- The Raiders nearly choked again last week and their halves continue to make poor decisions, but overall they are a far better footy team and should be far too good.
